Keith Wallington is Director of Advocacy at the Justice Policy Institute (JPI) where he leads the local education and advocacy projects. Currently, he is deeply involved with Maryland criminal justice initiatives including re-entry support, sentencing reform, and life without parole. He also focuses on support for policies that knock down barriers to returning citizens, and support returning citizens and their families.
Mr. Wallington uses a racial lens to improve outcomes for those who have been impacted by the justice system. In addition to being JPI’s point person on strategic alliances and leading JPI’s work in state legislatures, he pens op-eds, and writes and delivers testimonies before policymakers.
Prior to joining JPI, Wallington worked as an organizer for the Alliance for Retired Americans, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the health and economic security of older Americans. As a field organizer, he helped to build and charter states to the national Alliance and educate the public about the health and economic concerns of older Americans. After working as an organizer, he served as the Director of Community Outreach for the Alliance for Retired Americans where he helped build the organization through group affiliation. Wallington has also worked as a field organizer for Fight Crime: Invest in Kids, where he recruited top law enforcement officials and educated them about the importance of early education and evidence-based programs, which are proactive investments they should support as tools to fight crime.
He graduated from American University with degrees in biology and psychology.
He is a wonderful addition to the Board of PREPARE because in his day job he focusses on parole reform at the legislative level, which means he has important insight that helps inform PREPARE’s work on parole at the grassroots casework level.
