I worked for most of my professional career as a Director of Healthcare and Training for L’Arche, an organization providing homes for persons with intellectual disabilities, in DC and Virginia.
I also worked for some years at Christ House, a medical facility for homeless men in DC, providing them a chance to heal and hopefully re-enter society with more security and a plan for recovery in all the ways they sought it. The majority of these men had been incarcerated for some period of time, and Christ House provided supports to break that cycle.
My entrance into Prepare for Parole comes through the Ignatian Volunteer Corps – providing opportunities for those (mostly) retired to provide support to agencies in the Baltimore area. The commitment of Prepare for Parole to provide the structure and support to truly succeed upon reentry makes so much obvious sense, and yet it is creating a new model. I’m excited to be part of it.
