PREPARE is the successor organization to Second Chance for Women. Like Second Chance for Women prepare has Fusion Partnerships as a fiscal sponsor. The wonderful advisory board of Second Chance for Women, became the advisory board for PREPARE as the one organization transitioned into the other.

Jamie Raskin​

JAMIE RASKIN

Jamie Raskin is a Maryland Congressman. Prior to being in Congress he was a Maryland State Senator and a constitutional law professor at American University. He has always shown great willingness to support people who are incarcerated; he was supportive of the fledging prison college program when Elizabeth and Mary Joel were working on it over a decade ago. He was supportive of Second Chance for Women and stepped up to join the advisory board when Congressman Elijah Cummings, who had been on the board, sadly passed away. He is now an advisory board member of PREPARE. In Congress he serves on the Judiciary Committee where he is on the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties.

BRENDA SHELL-ELEAZER

Brenda is a retired commissioner and warden with 31 years of experience in correctional management and administration of juvenile, male and female offenders. Within that timeframe Brenda served as warden of MCIW. She is passionate about empowering correctional staff and the incarcerated population, along with educating students pursuing careers in this field. Brenda served on the board of the MCIW College Degree Program along with Mary Joel Davis, Elizabeth Finne and Brenda Murray. At the time she was warden of MCIW and encouraged the development of the college program as well as encouraging the development of Second Chance for Women.

BRENDA SHELL-ELEAZER

Brenda is a retired commissioner and warden with 31 years of experience in correctional management and administration of juvenile, male and female offenders. WILHELM H. JOSEPH

William H. Joseph is the Executive Director of Maryland Legal Aid where he directs management of the statewide civil legal services program that comprises 295 staff members, including 150 attorneys who work out of 13 offices. He has been supportive of Mary Joel’s work going back decades to when Maryland Legal Services collaborated with Alternative Directions Inc. 

BRENDA MURRAY

Brenda Murray is a retired Chief Administrative Law Judge of the Securities and Exchange Commission. She is also a former president of the National Association of Women Judges. She founded, and for years administered, the renowned book and writing club at MCIW. She was also a founding member of the MCIW College Degree Program, serving on the board along with Mary Joel Davis, Brenda Shell-Eleazer and Elizabeth Finne.

BRENDA MURRAY

Brenda Murray recently retired as a Chief Administrative Law Judge at the Securities and Exchange Commission. She is also a former president of the National Association of Women Judges. She founded, and for years administered, the renowned book and writing club at MCIW. She was also a founding member of the MCIW College Degree Program which continues today as the Goucher Prison Education Partnership.

FRAN KUHNE

Fran worked for 35 years in data processing at the Social Security Administration. Since retiring in 2009 she has taken care of the voluminous correspondence between Mary Joel and clients of Second Chance

Hillary Galloway Davis

Hillary Galloway Davis moved to Baltimore out of college as a member of the the Jesuit Volunteer Corp. She was posted to work with Mary Joel Davis and assisted her in founding Alternative Directions, Inc. She served as ADI’s Deputy Director until graduating from the University of Baltimore School of Law nearly thirty years ago. She has since been in private practice, with a focus on serving as counsel to State employee unions. She remained an adviser to ADI, and then to Second Chance for Women, and now to PREPARE.
